Ethiopia

Ethiopia, with 117 million people, the largest livestock population, and a rapidly growing economy in sub-Saharan Africa, is a leader in One Health. In 2017, the government established the National One Health Steering Committee (NOHSC) to foster multisectoral coordination and collaboration at national and sub-national levels. The NOHSC aims to create a sustainable institutionalized One Health platform. A priority in 2022/2023 is extending this governance to the regional level. Disease-specific technical working groups address zoonotic diseases collaboratively. Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia's oldest university and the local multiplier for COHESA, led by Mirgissa Kaba, significantly influences the country's higher education sector, advancing One Health initiatives.
